A red Vespa parked beneath bougainvillea against a sun-faded ochre wall, Côte d'Azur.

I waited a long time for the light to settle. The street was empty, the wall warm from the afternoon, and the bougainvillea kept dropping petals onto the seat. No one came to claim the Vespa while I made the picture. For a few minutes the whole country seemed to belong to that single small red shape.
